Sue Ryder Dragon Boat Event: The Result

On Sunday 14th September, Chorus took part in the brilliant Sue Ryder Dragon Boat race event in Baltic Wharf at Bristol Docks.

Everyone at Chorus got involved (including friends and family), with 20 of us involved in the actual rowing and with everyone else cheering us on from the side-lines or helping us to fundraise for our chosen charity – Sue Ryder, who also organised the whole event.

The whole day was a great success with plenty of local companies getting involved and raising money for various charities. Not only did the day help raise money for great causes it also acted as a fun-filled teambuilding day for everyone involved! We quickly discovered the key to Dragon Boat racing didn’t lie in strength and muscles (luckily!) but teamwork and timing – making sure everyone rowed at the same time and got into a steady rhythm, rowing as one well-oiled machine. Luckily, this was something that played in our favour as we pride ourselves on being a close-knit team that works well together.

After our first, and rather wobbly race we finished in 1 minute 18 seconds before we decided that we could do better. After a quick team meeting practising how we worked best, we managed to win the 2nd race in 1 minute 8 seconds and then also win the 3rd race in 1 minute 5 seconds putting us rather unsuspectingly into the final! Unfortunately we didn’t win overall but we were over the moon to come 6th out of 36th!

We hope everyone involved had a brilliant day – we certainly did! While the race may be over, our fundraising efforts definitely aren’t and with another 6 weeks to go to collect as much money as possible for Sue Ryder we will keep pushing.
