2nd Line Engineer

We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced 2nd Line Engineer to join one of the most established and successful privately owned IT Services companies in the Bristol area. The role of 2nd Line Engineer is varied in nature, spanning resolving escalated incidents and services requests from our 1st Line Service Desk Analysts, through to managing and monitoring key infrastructure and cloud services and delivering on-site activities as part of support or project based activities as required.

The Role


  • Provision of 2nd line support activities across a range of technologies;
  • Execution of customer service requests;
  • Provision of ongoing support and coaching to 1st Line Analysts to help upskill and increase the number of incidents or service requests closed by the 1st Line Team;
  • Ensure all allocated tickets and tasks are completed within contracted SLA’s;
  • Support and maintain Microsoft Server / Desktops and Azure Cloud environments;
  • Network infrastructure management (including the use of Cisco Meraki Portals);
  • Backup management (typically using Veeam and Altaro);
  • Evaluating and managing system alerts generated by monitoring tooling;
  • Escalation of incidents to 3rd line specialists where necessary;
  • Undertake visits to client sites to resolve issues as required;
  • Involvement in IT project based activity as required;
  • Develop and maintain system documentation for clients;
  • Ensure all knowledge base articles are accurate and up-to-date;
  • Quality check all hardware before it is shipped to clients from our workshop.


Initially the role will be remote in nature, in line with current government guidance, however once it becomes possible to bring the teams back together physically you will be based at our office in Portishead, just outside of Bristol and off the M5 with great access and free parking.
